Infertility, or inability to conceive, is a more common problem for couples than you may think. In fact, approximately 10-15% of couples have difficulty with conception. We typically start looking into causes of infertility when a couple has been trying to conceive with frequent unprotected intercourse (sex) for a year or more. In Dr. Gibson’s office, we focus on the work up male factor infertility. The workup for our male patients typically includes a testicular ultrasound, a semen analysis and a simple blood test to evaluate circulating levels of hormones that are important for conception. In some patients we can give medications to improve fertility and likelihood of conception while others may benefit from a outpatient surgical procedure which can help improve fertility.
